The gold rush
Cabo Polonio is a village on the eastern coast of Uruguay in the Rocha region.
It has no roads leading to it and is only accessible by walking through sand dunes or by driving through scrub land in special 4×4 vehicules provided by the community.
There is no electricity or running water for the few hundred houses of this town. Wind power and a few generators are used to power some of the posadas and the local grocery store.
This scenic village brought to mind the fantasy that I had about the kind of houses that people lived in during the gold rush era.
